During my foray into “building my social
media platform” (yawn), I did have one positive experience when I happened across a lovely young woman named Danielle Boyd. Danielle was starting up two (!) online
magazines (geared towards mothers) and was seeking submissions.
I wrote an article called Considering Homeschooling for her Mom and Baby
Magazine which, if you are so inclined, you can read here. I was struck by
Danielle’s professionalism,
ambition and her entrepreneurial spirit and thought it would be fun to share with you a little about her and her mission! Please feel free to contact Danielle if you
are interested in writing an article for either of her magazines or if you need help with web
design.
So tell us Danielle, how does a
mother of two decide to start up two online magazines?
I started as a Mom on a mission, beginning an adventure into the
Internet World.
When I was in 6th grade, I took a
programming class but never touched a computer again until about 10 years
later. At age 23, I had my first daughter and she was my everything and more.
As I continued to work outside the home I was leaving my daughter at a day care
that was dreadful as well was as unclean, to say the least. I was at work the
day of 9/11, I worked at a Newspaper station and I watched the news as it was
happening live, buildings were burning and people were screaming. I watched
with so much fear in my eyes. All I could think about was my daughter and what
the future would be like not knowing the outcome. As I watched day after day, I
realized I needed do something meaningful in my life. I found a company called
"Moms on a Mission" in which we helped moms work from home.
I am currently still with the company, yet we go by a different
name, and this is also a home based business. In pursuing my new career as a
stay at home mom who worked from home, I learned a ton of discipline as well as
goal oriented activities. I learned to set my goals and work as hard as I could
no matter what someone else said or did. In my 10 years of working from home I
learned how to learn again and to teach myself things no one else would.
Business success is one thing that can't really be taught in my beliefs.
Business is all about the pursuit and the activities that you do on a daily
basis. I learned you can't watch TV all day and expect to make money. My daily activities are what
drive my Business as a Teacher, Marketer, Publisher and Entrepreneur.
Back in 2009 I decided to go back to
school for Multi Media Design where I learned Web Design, Graphics, Animation
and Illustration. I utilized the skills I learned in
school, then applied those skills to
today's real world tactics. My goal is to become a successful publisher in the
sometimes-not-taken-seriously Mom/Business/Women world in which we live
in.
